There are two sides to communicating: taking in information and putting it forth. Right now, Natick's schools need to develop both. There need to be accessible ways for parents (and others) to express concerns and ask questions; and they need to establish reliable means of communicating to taxpayers about what -- and how -- the schools are doing.
Greater Web Presence
A better web site -- perhaps even run by School Committee members -- would give people easier access to information, would allow parents and others to ask questions easily, and could advocate for the schools. An e-newsletter, either sent by the School Committee as a whole, or sent by me or others as individuals, is a priority I'm acting on now.
Natick Public Schools Newsletters
Parents and kids are not the only 'customers' of the schools. Schools are paid for -- and belong to -- the entire community. Natick Public Schools should be sending all-school newsletters to every resident, using private funds, to let everyone know how their schools are doing.
